There is a significant difference between a leader and a manager. Leaders can be managers. But not all managers have the abilities to become leaders.

A manager has subordinates while a leader has followers. Aside from having his own subordinates, a manager is also a subordinate or a copy of some higher authority.

The manager relies on the formal authority vested upon him in order to gain the respect of his subordinates.  A manager practices control over his subordinates. He uses this authority to gain subordinates who will work for him to finish a given task.

Basically, he is also a subordinate working for someone above his rank. A manager, by the use of vested authority, exercises control over his subordinates so that they may be able to properly follow directions and orders from him.

The manager follows standardized systems and structures in order to finish a task. Managers generally do not welcome change as this will only cause them to lose focus and will also tend to delay things in the process. Managers maintain work along an already established road.

Managers often work for clear short-term objectives within the constraints of time and money.

They work for promised rewards and compensations. Same goes for their subordinates upon coming to an agreement with their managers.

You need a good head to be a manager in order to properly direct your subordinates.

The manager retains safety and stability of work by following a set of guidelines and well-tested procedures. They enact customary practices to finish their tasks at a definite time.

Being a subordinate to a manager is generally obligatory. There is a clear difference between a leader and a manager in this regard.

You agree to work for a manager mainly because of the promise of a sufficient reward, value, or compensation for your efforts.

He supervises with a command and a power. They plan for details using a set of established guidelines in order to come up with standardized results.

A manager focuses on accomplishing short-term objectives within an agreed period.

Who is a Leader

A leader relies on a charismatic and transformational approach in order to win followers. These followers will then work together with the leader for the same cause.

A leader creates a shared focus with his followers.  A leader enhances trust among his followers.

The leader, on the other hand, focuses on the positive development of individuals to better come up with a quality achievements.

Leaders are not afraid to take risks and welcome change since this can help the team learn more and improve. Leaders develop new avenues for further industrial growth.

Leaders aim for absolute long-term achievements. They work with vision and excitement. They work for a cause.

you need a good heart to be a leader in order to inspire your followers to work the same way as you in achieving the team’s goals. In other words, managers have control while leaders have passion.

The leader, on the other hand, is not afraid to explore further. They are optimistic when it comes to change.

They are brave enough to experiment for improvements in order to achieve a possibly better goal than what was originally planned.

He merely encourages trust and motivation among his followers to inspire to work along with him.

But choosing to be a follower to him is genuinely voluntary. You do not choose to follow a person because you are obliged to do so.

You choose to follow a person simply because you are inspired by his cause and by everything that he is willing to do in order to satisfy that cause.

He works with a passion and looks with excitement at a long-term vision.

Regardless of formulated guidelines, they do not ignore positive changes if it helps the team to grow more and develop further in the industry.

He strives for meaningful achievement instead of merely predictable results.


Difference between Manager and Leader

Mainly, the difference between manager and leader is that the former relies on established statutes and rules to arrive at the finish line within a given time while the latter focuses on people’s abilities and how they can improve further for the benefit of their shared long-term cause.

To become an ideal team player, it will be good to both be a manager and a leader.

Be organized as a manager but be brave enough to grow further along with your followers as a leader.

Are you a leader? Or are you a manager? Would it not be better to become both?

People will look up to you with their utmost respect if you have the head of a manager.

But if you also have the heart of a leader, they will choose to follow you through whatever endeavor regardless of monetary value.
